Children's Hospital of the Mannheim Medical Faculty of the University of Heidelberg (Director of the Children's Hospital: Prof. Dr. Schroten) is looking for a

Postdoc position (m/f)

The position is available immediately for 3 years. 

A main focus of the workgroup is the investigation of the meningitis pathogenesis. Neurotropic viruses can cause devastating central nervous system infections, especially in young children and the elderly. The postdoc will concentrate on the interaction processes of meningitis-causing pathogens such as enterovirus with host cells. It will involve establishing also optimized cell culture models to study signal transduction pathways, the regulation of gene expression in the host cells, inflammatory cell response, alterations of host cell barriers, and cell death (see also Dahm et al., Virus Res. 2017;232:54-62, Lauer et al., Am J Physiol Cell Physiol. 2018;314:C152-C165, Dahm et al., J Neuroinflammation. 2018;15:50).

Applicants should have the following skills:

-PhD in Biology or equivalent

-A special interest in basic research in the field of the pathogenesis of meningitis

-Broad expertise in basic cell-molecular and biochemical techniques (culture, viral infection, flow cytometry, microscopy, Western blotting, gene expression analysis, etc.)

-Very good knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office and graphic programs, statistical software, 

bioinformatics tools and online tools

-Ability to work in a multidiscilinary team and to meet deadlines

-Ability to analyze, integrate and communicate large amounts of data

-Drive independently the experimental and project design

-Experience in writing scientific reports and papers

-Strong communication skills (oral presentations and writing)

-A high motivation and ability to multi-task

-An active participitation in laboratory organization is expected
